Interview Tips
Preparation: Keep your resume updated by tailoring it to the job you’re applying for, dress business casual, and aim to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your interview to give yourself time to relax and gather your thoughts.
Research the company: Understand the job description by making sure you can discuss the relevant skills and experiences to the job.
Practice Common Questions:
Could you tell me about yourself?
Why do you want to work at our company/ What do you hope to gain by working here?
Why should we hire you over another qualified candidate?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
How do you work under pressure/handle conflict?
Prepare questions to ask your interviewer:
What are the types of things I’ll be learning from working at your company?
Are there any particular skills or experiences you look for in a potential employee?
Thank your interviewer(s): Thank you for your time. I’m very excited about the possibility of joining your team and contributing to [specific project or goal]. Allow a firm handshake as a sign of professionalism and appreciation.
Follow-up email example: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me about the [Job Title] position yesterday. I particularly enjoyed our discussion about [specific topic], and I believe my experience with [related experience] would allow me to make a meaningful contribution to your team. If you need any more information, please feel free to reach out to me. Use a professional closing like “Best regards,” followed by your name and contact information. Send the email within 24 hours so that the interviewer can keep you fresh in their mind.
How to construct an effective elevator pitch:
When to use? When the interviewer asks: “Tell me about yourself”
How? State your name, current role (if you have one), essential skills that are relevant to the job, mention an achievement or experience where you created an impact (for example, if you have strong leadership skills—don’t just state it, apply it to the experience: I led a team project that resulted in a 15% increase in the company’s sales), make sure to tie your skills and accomplishments to the job you're applying (example: I believe my analytical and leadership skills in driving sales aligns well with your company’s goal of product launch)
With all these crucial skills and preparation, what truly matters most is being confident, enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute, and being true to yourself!
We hope these tips can help you ace your next interview!
